The 6 Vedangas are the limbs of Vedas for building a strong foundation of knowledge. They are categorised as : ~ Shiksha (Phonetics and Pronunciaton) The oldest phonetics textbooks are the Pratishakyas (prātiśākhya), describing pronunciation, intonation of Sanskrit, as well as the Sanskrit rules of sandhi (word combination), specific to individual schools or Shakhas of the Vedas.  ~ Kalpa (Vedic Rituals) The Kalpasutras are manuals for the proper application of the Vedic texts and considered significant for the study of Vedic culture and society. They are divided into 4 categories : (1) Shrauta-sutras,dealing with vedic rituals and sacrifices (2) Grihya-sutras, dealing with the domestic ceremonies (3) Dharma-sutras, dealing with the religious and social laws (4) Shulba-sutras, dealing with the geometry and construction of vedic alters. ~ Vyakaran (Grammar) Vyakaran includes the Aṣṭādhyāyī of Panini. There are 4 parts of Panini’s Grammar: (1) Śivasūtra: for phonology (notations for phonemes specified in 14 lines) (2) Aṣṭadhyāyī: for morphology (construction rules for complexes) (3) Dhātupāṭha: for list of roots (classes of verbal roots) (4) Gaṇapāṭha: for list of classes of primitive nominal stems
